States: " Ex Libris Blanche M. Harnan"; depicts sailing ship at sea with gulls and full moon. Personal bookplate for Blanche M. Harnan (also known as Mrs. William L. Harnan). Blanche M. Harnan was the founder of the Seattle Ceramic Society in 1940, a society dedicated to the collection of museum-worthy European porcelain,to serve as a counter to the already fine collection of Asian porcelain held by SAM. Many pieces in SAM's collection bear the credit line: "Blanche M. Harnan Ceramic Collection." She was also named an honorary curator of 18th century porcelain for the museum.
