Description

Terrain speaks of the textures of the earth. This compilation of expressions, relief prints and poems, breathes the life of ongoing cultures inherent to place. The project was an opportunity to bring people together: older artists working alongside younger artists; well-known artists working alongside emerging ones. It became a very multigenerational experience. Editions were produced for museums, the artists, and people who volunteered on the project. This collaboration used the same printing techniques and materials for each poem and image. This project shed some light on artists of the Plateau area, who don’t often receive the attention that artists from the Northwest Coast and Plains regions receive. The homeland of the Plateau people is defined by the crest of the Cascades to the Continental Divide, touching northern California extending far north into British Columbia.

Inscription: Signed by editor and curator on colophon in pencil and hand numbered below.

Colophon reads: Terrain editioned at the Evergreen State College used Vandercook presses to print original relief prints on Domestic Etching paper with the folio made of Arches Cover embellished with mono-prints by Corwin Clairmont. The text was printed with a hp LaserJet 1012. Copyrights are held by individual artists & writers ... 68 - Each artist and poet received two books; 15 donations to museums, 1 - Printer's Proof; 1 - Editor's Proof; 5 - books for volunteers; 2 - books reserved for Longhouse Gifts; Total books - 92.
