States: "Fras ci Grant E Libris 1880"; depicts a tree with frogs on and around it, with a farming valley beyond; Grant (or Wiseman?) family coat of arms with chevron in the upper left-hand corner; decorated border. Bookplate possibly for Colonel Francis Grant, dated 1880. The bookplate is based on the printer's device for Christoph Froschauer, printer of the Zurich bible, originally designed by Hans Holbein. Col. Grant was the son of the painter Sir Francis Grant, who served in India and China, authored a biography of Samuel Johnson, and was a book collector.
