Title

Subject

Art--Collectors And Collecting
Surrealism--Archival Resources
Artists' Books--New York--Specimens

Description

This moveable artists' book is inspired by the Philadelphia Museum of Art's archive of Surrealist photographs, correspondence, ephemera, and artwork. Opening this book reveals digital reroductions of objects from the archive, a pop-up dollhouse, envelopes filled with small cards, and hidden inserts. Designed and produced by Tammy Nguyen, the book tries to imagine the original home of this archive: Judith Young-Mallin's home. The work highlights 20th-century cultural luminaries, such as Leonora Carrington, Bill Copley, Robert Warner, Man Ray, M. F. K. Fisher, Carol Janeway, Ossip Zadkine, Dorothea Tanning, Yves Tanguy, and Kay Sage. This artist's book is accompanied by a booklet about the designer, Tammy Nguyen, and Judith Young-Mallin.
